nitrous oxide
Many children can cooperate for treatment with just nitrous oxide (or more commonly known as "laughing gas"). Laughing gas is a safe and effective anxiolytic and pain reliever that helps our more mildly anxious patients relax. Kids breathe the nitrous through a nasal mask and remain awake and alert throughout the procedure. It does not have prolonged sedative effects (it actually completely exits the body within minutes of turning it off!) and children can resume normal activities right after their appointment.

oral conscious sedation
When traditional behavior management techniques prove insufficient, Dr. Diana offers advanced sedation options tailored to pediatric patients. Our specialized conscious sedation approach provides a safe, carefully monitored solution for our more moderately anxious patients. This involves administering a precisely dosed liquid medication that helps patients enter a calm and relaxed state--creating a gentler, euphoric experience for when laughing gas alone is not quite enough to take the edge off.
IV sedation
Some children are not candidates for nitrous oxide or oral sedation based on an elevated level of anxiety and more extensive treatment needs.
Dr. Diana partners with a skilled medical general anesthesia team to ensure your child receives the highest level of comfort in a familiar office environment.
Considering this option can be more convenient and cost-effective than treatment in a hospital setting. If your child is a good candidate for this option, Dr. Diana will discuss additional details during your visit.

Dr. Diana is holds medical staff privileges at a local surgery center in Middle Tennessee. If your child requires extensive dental treatment or isn't a candidate for in-office IV sedation, comprehensive dental rehabilitation in the OR can be an excellent solution. This approach ensures that your child receives the care they need in a comfortable and safe environment. Your child's health and comfort are our top priorities.
